Astrophotography

Here are two photographs. I'm pretty new at this, so excuse the unprofessional look.

GARY & TELESCOPE

This is the little telescope that could. It is a Tele Vue Genesis 4" refractor on a solid equatorial mount. It provides excellent views of the planets and star clusters, and is a joy to use.

THE ORION NEBULA

The "Great Nebula in Orion" (M42), generally considered the finest example of a diffuse nebula in the sky, and one of the most wonderfully beautiful objects in the heavens. It may be easily seen in binoculars as a faint haze in the middle of Orion's sword.

Through a telescope it appears as a bright greenish mist enveloping the blue-white hot stars that illuminate it. However a photograph shows it as mostly reddish because it emits a lot of red light in addition to the green. The dark-adapted eye's photo-receptors are insensitive to red but can see the green.
