October 1999

The 1999-2000 issue for emphasis of the California State League of Women Voters is "Sustainability - Community Education and Action."  Each unit will begin by studying its own community, doing a community profile and evaluating the community according to certain sustainability indicators, such as sense of community, ecological health, economic health, social equity, physical planning and design.

Working with the public, other citizen groups, and government officials, the goal of the League will be education -- making all aware of community progress and, if necessary, a need to change focus or ideas in order to permit and maintain a high quality of life for all, while leaving future generations as many or more opportunities as we have.
