Dave's Angels

Editorials

Dave's Angels editorial page has my views on one of my

favorite sports teams since I was a young boy. You may or

may not agree with them but try to get some amusement

from what I express.

Back in 1962, I was 12 years old. We had just moved from a house we lived in for 11 1/2 years, since I was just 6 months old. I can remember Dick Enberg on the radio as my mom and I would be listening to the Angels game on the radio in the car parked in the driveway at our new residence. We had moved from Lakewood California to Lancaster, California (100 Miles north). The reception on the radio was pretty bad and the signal would go in and out so that you wouldn't hear the announcer on some of the play by play. My mom never had a driver's license but would listen to the Angel games in the car when my dad was home because we didn't get it on the TV. It was also no disturbances out there and my sisters and brothers were inside the house. My mom told me of the Pacific Coast league Los Angeles Angels and how she really was a big fan of them until the Brooklyn Dodgers came to town and the Angels went out of business. Part of the reason I can't stand the Dodgers is due to that and some other things, as well. Mostly, though, it's because the Giants are my all time team and we know how Giants and Dodgers mix like fire and water. Those moments listening to the games were special memories which still remind me of the friendship my mother and I shared. That was the start of my allegiance to the Angels: Los Angeles, California and Anaheim. Gene Autry was one of cowboy shows I used to watch on TV when I was 9 and 10. I made me said that he waited all thosed years for his team to bring him a World Championship, but he couldn't live long enough to see its fruition. Now the Angels are in fantasy land along with the cartoon characters of Disney. You should already know what they are constantly doing to the Ducks Hockey team. Winning championships is not their "Prime Directive" as they trade players away and keep ones that are the problem of why the Angels can never "gel" as a contender. The Angels have a few good men, don't get me wrong but some are nothing but a bunch of mal-contents and cry babies.
