W hen people think of Jack Nicholson, they usually think of a great actor who has starred in some wonderful movies. It's hard to believe, but Jack never had any ambition to become an actor. After moving to California, Nicholson made money from betting on horse races, working part time for a toy store, and then running errands for MGM's animated section. While running mail one day, his looks were noticed by a producer who then asked Jack if he would like to be an actor. Two oscars, five golden globe awards and dozens of movies later, he is recognized as a great actor who's hard nosed attitude and raised eyebrows are now infamouse. Nicholson was born in New York on April 22, in 1937, making him 53 now. His mother was an unmarried teen when she became pregnant with Jack. In 1937 something like this was shamefull and unacceptable, so her parents decided to raise the baby as their own and his mother became his sister. When Jack was 26, his mother died of cancer. Jack never knew the truth of his real mother untill a reporter brought the news to Jacks attention in an interview. Some of his best movies include One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest (one of his oscar winning performances), Hoffa, A Few Good Men, Batman, Prizzis Honor, Wolf, and The Shinning. His characters are diverse and that's the way he likes it. He would rather not star in a movie that is noted for it's name or dollar revenues, but for one that makes people think.
He prides himself in being a well rounded thinking individual. Some of his interests that contribute to the diversity include playing golf, watching tennis, and attending Lakers home games. He also enjoys fine cigars, art, books, and music. He is a man who truely enjoys and grasps all the fine things that life has to offer. |
And he seems to find some levity in the fact that he goes against the grain.
Not to be mistaken, Doyle is a true businessman. He talks the talk and has
proved himself to quite a few naysayers.
Doyle simply chooses to save the suits, starched shirts and ties for special occasions. The shorts and casual shirts - those are his "work clothes." So how did Doyle make it from the air traffic control center in Miami to running a cigar factory? Simple. It was, and is, a passion for cigars.
"I loved cigars and the people I met working from the wholesale side," Doyle says. This was something completely different from his regular job at the airport. Things progressed and Doyle became more interested in the tobacco industry. In November 1994, Doyle took his "hobby" a step further - he opened a 1,400 square foot tobacco store in Key Largo, Fla. "Basically, it was a place for people like me to get cigars without having to travel a great distance from home," Doyle says, "I was never concerned with making money on the store - just paying the rent and supporting my own love of cigars."
